Falloween Dining Room Tour with a Napkin Ring Tutorial

September has come and gone, and I’m already feeling like October is flying by!

I love this time of year, and as hard as I try to savor each moment, it never seems to last long enough! I don’t “decorate” for Halloween, although I do have some fun “cute Halloween” decor items that you can find here. I love doing tiered trays for Halloween even if there’s none in the rest of the house.

The last few years, the term “falloween” has crept into my vocabulary. Have you heard of it? A mix of fall and Halloween! I decided to try it out this year in our dining room. I have loved decorating with candy corn for the last several years. By the way, candy corn can be very controversial!! It seems people either love it or hate it! Personally, I don’t like to eat it, but using it for decor is a whole other story. And, if you don’t like to eat it like me, here’s a tip for you. I bought two large bags of candy corn about 3-4 years ago, and I’m still using it to decorate with. I just put it in a Ziploc bag and save it for the next year. I’m guessing that the shelf life of candy corn must be about 25 years!

The falloween decor in here is a mix of vintage, new, and diy! I love mixing things up a bit. The Sweet Autumn Blessings sign is a diy, The design is a discontinued design from one of our pillow covers. Some spray painted branches from the yard with some twinkle lights make an easy statement piece. Add them to a vintage milk bucket and it adds an extra special touch.

The candy corn garland , the book stack, and the two candy corn signs on the hutch are from fellow small shop owners.

I added pops of black to give the dining room a little more of a Halloween feel. Actually, I like adding touches of black in almost all of my decor. It grounds the design, and also tends to give a classic touch. The pumpkins with the sprinkles were a really fun DIY and I will be sharing that in an upcoming video. The black and white ribbons plus the sparkly black hoops on the window added just enough Halloween vibe for me!

Our dining room just happens to also be the home to our piano. I found the vintage schoolroom chalkboard at Goodwill a few years ago for less than $10.00. It is such a fun place to add some seasonal touches. Except for your time and imagination to create the chalkboard art, it offers free decor all year round. A simple garland from Michael’s was paired with this cute burlap candy corn bunting from Allison!

The small table was fun and yet really easy to decorate. I kept it very simple. Orange chargers (that I spray painted because I couldn’t find the color that I wanted), yellow plates, and white salad plates are topped with melamine plates from Target Dollar Spot. Yes, that is a lot of layers, but it adds a lot of visual interest! The candy corn quilt blocks are from Merri. Her primitive paintings are some of my favorite handmade items!

I wanted one more special and unique touch for the table. These fun napkin rings were just the thing! They are pretty easy to make, even older kids could do it, and you can make them very specific to your color theme. Not doing candy corn theme, no problem. Maybe you want to make black and white ones, or completely neutral ones. Or what if you wanted orange and black or purple and orange for a bright and not so spooky touch to a Halloween tablescape!
